Shoshana’s Fall Favorites in CT

Pumpkin Patch1

I have to be honest, the Fall season is truly my favorite.  I love the way it smells, the brisk air combined with the warm sun, and all of the Fall Festivities the months bring.  There is nothing better than curling up with a bowl of chili and entertaining friends and family on a Football Sunday, or coming home from work with the crockpot making a delicious soup and apple pie in the oven.  All that said, the beginning of this Fall in particular has been my favorite of all.

I had the pleasure of introducing my little boy to all the fun things the gorgeous Fairfield County has to offer last weekend, as we had an absolute gorgeous Sunday following our rainy Saturday.  We woke up ready to conquer the day with family fun!  We started off at the apple orchard & pumpkin patch.  We chose Silverman’s Farm in Easton because not only is it minutes from home, but Jaxson’s obsession is animals and they have a great petting zoo…I will admit the hayride and pumpkin patch were in a tight race for second place!   It warmed my heart as I watched him run around the pumpkins with “oohs” and “ahhs”, taking in the hayride with nothing but laughter and excitement and to top it all off, he experienced Silverman’s famous apple cider donuts…heavenly!

Check out below (and click) for a list of some other local family favorites such as Jone’s Family Farms in Shelton, Blue Jay Orchards in Bethel, and Castle Hill Farm in Newtown.

Our next stop, was the 7th Annual “ChowdaFest” at Norwalk’s Calf Pasture Beach, which benefits Community Plates in an effort to alleviate hunger.  If you love “chowda”, this was the event NOT to miss.  There were 36 different types of chowder, soup, and bisque; we arrived and were given a spoon, pencil and ballot…bon aptit.  There were so many amazing restaurants there and the chefs all created magic…of course I have a few favorites that I will share and if you are visiting the area or are “a local”, I highly recommended taking the family out tonight…you cannot go wrong at any of the participating restaurants, but MY favorites were:

  • The Spread in Norwalk had a fun twist on the traditional chowder with their “Chorizo and Shrimp Chowder”.  I could not get enough of this out-side-of-the-box chowder!
  • Fairfield’s Old Post Tavern traditional New England Clam Chowder made us very happy that the restaurant is just a hop, skip and away from our front door!
  • Simply Delicious, another Norwalk favorite had a Lobster and Corn Chowder that just filled Jaxson’s belly…
