Our Favorite Summer Activities

It’s hard to believe it’s already the beginning of August. While Real Estate is 24/7, I try and make sure that our free moments are spent enjoying the beautiful days & nights in this great town we live in! That said, summer always seems to fly by, but there are still a few events in and around Fairfield you can catch before summer ends and I am sharing our favorites! Most of these are great if you have little ones too!

Fairfield Sand Jam at Jennings Beach

This has come to be a tradition that I love…my friends and I meet at the beach in the late afternoon with our kids. We bring a cooler, portable speaker and order dinner (love that restaurants deliver to the beach)!  The kids let loose and enjoy a dj dance party which begins at 6:30pm and is followed by a movie on the beach (start time around 8:30pm); they always play great children’s movies!
The last Sand Jam for the summer is on August 10. We’ll be there – come say hi!

Picking Fruit at Lyman Orchards in Middlefield

Who doesn’t love fresh fruit picked right from the orchard?! This month, blueberries, peaches and nectarines are in season.  I find it’s a fun activity to change up the typical summer day…my best advice is to go early in the morning or on a cooler day!  They also have a sunflower maze, open until August 27.

Some of our other frequented Orchards/Farms not to miss: Silverman’s Farm (the kids love animal farm), Jones Family Farm

Easton Volunteer Fireman’s Carnival

Carnivals are great because they offer fun for the whole family. Summertime, it seems as though there is a carnival a week offered.  Between all the rides, bingo, food tents and raffles, it’s hard to pick one favorite…but I know Jaxson’s favorites are the rides! For just $25, they offer a bracelet for unlimited rides. The event is the primary fund-raiser for the town’s volunteer fire department and the last day for the carnival is August 5th.

Crab Exploring at Low Tide

What’s better than a summer activity the kiddos enjoy? A FREE summer activity! All you need is a few sand pails, dump trucks, and knowing when the beach is at low tide (I have the link to the tide chart saved on my phone). You can frequently find us at Southport and Sasco Beach with our friends and their kids.  I LOVE seeing the kids’ excitement as they explore!

Dinner at the Beach

When the kids are tuckered out from catching all those crabs, it’ll be time for a delicious and easy pizza party. Our go to’s are Greenfield Hill Market (not only is their cheese pizza delicious, but if you want to try something out-side-of-the-box, a must try is “Cappy’s Favorite”), Nauti Dolphin and Fairfield Pizza. Grab some paper plates, drinks, and a few beach blankets, and viola – an easy, quick dinner on the beach.  We try and do this once a week and hands down, it is my favorite!

A Good Old Beach Day

When was the last time you spent the day at the beach, making sand castles, collecting seashells and seaglass, going for a dip in the Sound, flying a kite, or watching the sun rise or set? With Jennings Beach, Penfield Beach, Southport Beach, Sasco Hill Beach, South Pine Creek Beach (not to mention the state parks like Silver Sands State Park, Sherwood Island State Park, Hammonasset Beach State Park, and Rocky Neck State Park), there’s a new beach for you to check off your list every weekend!

Westport Blues, Views & BBQs Festival

Although this event runs Labor Day weekend (just as summer ends), it’s a fun one to put down on your calender.  It is hosted at the Levitt Pavilion and kids 12 and under are free with a paid adult ticket. Jaxson loves the bouncy house, but there’s also other kid’s activites, tons of food trucks, a craft beer bar, eating contests, BBQ competition, and of course, live music!

Concerts At The Levitt Pavilion

The newly redone Levitt Pavilion is a great venue for adults and kids!  Wednesday nights, thru August 23rd, are the Melissa and Doug Children Series…live music, free stickers, face painting and fun!  Did I mention, these concerts are FREE?!  For the adults, the Levitt hosts many live music events…this summer we couldn’t miss buying tickets to Mike DelGuidice & Big Shot – Celebrating the music of Billy Joel…just a great way to kick off summer!!  Bring your blankets, chairs, drinks and/or food (although there is a concession stand) and dance the night away!

So, what are some of your favorite summer activities?!

Stay tuned for next month as Fall is my favorite season and I will be sharing my favorite highlights & events!

Enjoy the rest of summer,
